Journey
Paulson Kalu - Afrikhanah stands as a monumental presence in the realm of Nigerian highlife, celebrated not just for his musical innovations but for his life-long commitment to cultural and spiritual growth. Born in 1940 in Akanu Ohafia, in the heartland of Abia State, Kalu's immersion in highlife began early. His musical quest commenced with the Martin Brothers Dance Band, a journey that would soon lead him into the transformative tutelage of Stephen Osadebe's Band. It was here that Kalu honed his artistry, blending traditional highlife sounds with evocative Igbo philosophies to create music that was as enlightening as it was entertaining. The formation of his own ensemble, the Africana Dance Band, marked a significant milestone. Kalu's songs, delivered in Igbo, resonated with philosophical profundity, encapsulating the socio-political heartbeat of Nigeria. As his career progressed, his focus shifted towards spiritual and humanitarian pursuits, leading to the establishment of the Paulson Kalu Evangelistic Foundation International. Through his foundation, Kalu channels the same fervor that once captivated his audience into uplifting communities. A luminary whose legacy continues to guide and inspire, Paulson Kalu's contributions to highlife music and society at large are both enduring and transformative.
